2007-12-09 - GnGeo License Modification

Hello everyone!

Some people may be aware of it, but gngeo have licensing issue. Indeed, gngeo use some piece of code coming from the Mame project, which have a license that is incompatible with the GPL.

To correct this issue, the following special exception is added to the GPL license used by gngeo:

As a special exception, You have the permission to link the code of this program with independent modules, regardless of the license terms of these independent modules, and to copy and distribute the resulting executable under terms of your choice, provided that you also meet, for each linked independent module, the terms and conditions of the license of that module. An independent module is a module which is not derived from or based on Gngeo. If you modify this library, you may extend this exception to your version of the library, but you are not obligated to do so. If you do not wish to do so, delete this exception statement from your version.

2007-01-03 - Innaugurating GnGeo / XGngeo / GGF common forums!

Happy new year everyone. :)

Today there is no release, yet we have another sort of present to give you for starting year 2007: the GnGeo, XGngeo, and GGF projects are pround to announce they've all started having official forums for public help request / suggestion / discussions, and that, on top of all, those forums are actually available on a common place!

Go to the common forums.

As an initiative of the Choplair-network, the BBS is accessible at http://bbs.choplair.org/.
With a centralized effort to help users, hear their comments, and debate of the future development, we hope it is going to create a synergy that would benefit to the three projects. :)

So, don't wait a second, and start posting to thos currently virgin forums ! :D

See ya.

2006-10-18 - Release of GGF 0.5 I'm alive version!

GGF 0.5 screenshot.

Almost 3 years since the last version, Ricardo Almeida announced with surprize the new GGF (GnGeo Frontend) 0.5, aka I'm Alive version. :)

According to the author, there is still some missing feature compared to XGngeo that greatly evolved during that time, but in the same time it brings unique features to the frontend scene, consisting mainly in:

Full changelog is readable from the GGF home page.

There are actually two different versions available, the full version including preview images and XML ROM info, and the small version that only contains class files (similar to previous releases).

You may grab GGF 0.5 from its SourceForge project's download area. Please note it does require Java 1.5 and GnGeo 0.7.
Enjoy!

2006-10-01 - XGngeo 16 final released!

The Choplair-network announced yesterday the availability of XGngeo v16 final.
A beta version was already released on august, but this new one comes with numerous bug fixes and improvements such as:

For the innoncents, XGngeo is a frontend that tends to provide the most complete and up-to-date GUI over GnGeo, making its brute force become intuitive and user-friendly!

You may grab XGngeo 16 from its download area at BerliOS, or have a prior look to the screenshot gallery.
Cheers!

2006-08-31 - GnGeo 0.7 released!

A new version of GnGeo has just been released!

It features various enhancements such as the official switch to a directory (with one file per ROM) instead of a single & huge file (the old romrc) to manage all the ROM drivers in a more flexible way, many GP2X port improvements (easier way to exit, new menu system, bug with volume change fixed...), the addition of a biospath option which is now used to define BIOS files location instead of rompath that now only indicates where to look for ROMs (ie. BIOS may be in a separate directory than ROMs), etc.

You may see the complete changelog for details and grab GnGeo 0.7 packages (including GnGeo2X) from our new BerliOS project's download area.

By the way, you certainly noticed the new layout and available pages. An emulator such as GnGeo deserved a better website, so now there is a lot more content, an updated pastel design, and the whole is 100% dynamic and standard compliant! Enjoy ;)
